Town of Altona

Altona is a quaint rural community steeped in history, nestled in the heart of the North Country. We are approximately 24 miles west of Plattsburgh and 1 hour away from Montreal.

We are a community of 2950 persons and cover 104 miles.
Farming, the NAC school district, Rainbow Banquet Hall and a correctional facility are the main local employers.
Several family owned gas and food markets may be found in and in the outskirts of town.
Holy Angels Catholic Church is located in the center of the township.

As Supervisor, I welcome you to our family friendly community — great people and a great place to live.

Dear Altona Community Members, Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and make a positive impact in our beloved town? Altona has always been a place of warmth, unity, and resilience. Now, it’s time to come together once again and rebuild our community stronger than ever before! We are excited to announce the inaugural meeting for the establishment of an organized group dedicated to revitalizing Altona. The meeting aims to discuss the possibility of initiating a community clean-up day. During this meeting, we will deliberate on crucial matters such as determining the ideal date for the clean-up event and outlining the scope. One proposed idea is to include the cleanup of certain roads within our community to address the issue of accumulated garbage. Your participation and contribution are vital to the success of this endeavor. Together, let’s embark on this journey towards a cleaner, more vibrant Altona!
